VEI Marine Display Systems and OceanView Night-Vision cameras are now available in New Zealand through leading marine electronics distributor Electronic Navigation Limited (ENL). American marine electronics company VEI, produce a wide range of marine display screens, marine computers and night-vision/thermal camera systems – OceanView.
Being appointed distributor for VEI and OceanView, ENL’s General Manager Gareth Hodson says it will bring stability to the brand in New Zealand.
“The new distribution signing brings certainty to the market, especially when it comes to marine night vision cameras. A lot of brands a jumping between multiple distributors which doesn’t give the consumer any confidence in their purchase,” says Hodson.
“Having VEI and OceanView onboard really makes us a one-stop shop when it comes to customizing an electronics package for any vessel, combine that with ENL’s extensive network - we have more sales & service technicians than any other electronics company in the industry.”
Complimenting the OceanView range will also be the VEI range of LED display screens available in various series and sizes from 8”-32” – the largest marine monitor available on the market. A variety of dash mount options are available such as Pilothouse, Daylight, Sunlight and Super Sunlight Brightness. No buttons and no bezel and optional touch screens are also available. The Reverse Mount Display Series is the only one of its kind in the marine electronics industry. It is installed from behind the helm with no visible bezel showing.
The OceanView Ultra Low-Light and Thermal Imager range is very extensive, with eight products suited to the pleasure, commercial and government markets, ranging from smaller units that could be fitted to trailerboats, right through to products for the launch and super yacht market.
“Experienced boaters know that you don't always have the convenience of operating your vessel in perfect conditions (lighting). OceanView's line of combination thermal imaging, low-light and color cameras gives you the ability to operate in total darkness, pouring rain, fog or glaring sunlight, providing safer navigation,” says Hodson.
“OceanView will let you see what the radar doesn’t.”

The newest product in its extensive line-up of multi-sensor night-vision camera systems; is the Apollo II HD - the Highest Definition Thermal Imaging camera available in the marketplace today.
Targeted at the launch and cruiser market the OceanView Apollo II HD is a low current draw, 9-32VDC solution incorporating a 640x480 resolution thermal imaging camera with its new 4x digital zoom and an ultra-low-light camera, and 360° pan and tilt. The Apollo II HD has four times the resolution of other cameras. The thermal image in HD is clearer and more detailed than comparative systems.
As well as Thermal Imaging, the low-light sensor amplifies even barely discernable light to render a crisp detailed picture in almost total darkness. The combination of thermal and low light in one unit makes boating more safe and enjoyable and extends the day into total darkness. Floating debris, channel markers and other vessels are easy to identify. Looking out for unlit or semi-submerged objects in passage or for maneuvering in unknown waters and anchorages just got a whole lot easier. The camera has an on-control-unit camera position indicator and a home button. With the new LCD control unit, the user has fingertip control and a clear view of the simple menu.
OceanView solutions will sell from $8999 in New Zealand and are available in PAL or NTSC video.
Larger cameras in the OceanView range have stabilization and target tracking that allows for a steady performance when it matters most. All cameras are all fully marinized, waterproof and sealed (IPX67), enabling them to withstand the constant pounding of the sea, moisture, salt and corrosion.
