K&M Open Day

K&M Open Day

During the annual Open Day on Saturday 17 April, K&M Yachtbuilders unveiled its latest showpiece: the Axonite 69. A modern yacht based on the design of Guido de Groot and Kees van de Stadt. The Axonite is due to be launched just before the Open Day, together with a Stadtship 54. These two brand-new sailing yachts can be viewed with ten other yachts during the Open Day. There will still be plenty of work to do once the Axonite 69 and the Stadtship 54 have left the shipyard. A Stadtship 56, a Bestevaer 55ST and a 49ST are under construction and will be on view during the Open Day.

Interesting stories

The talks given during the Open Day are always appreciated, so K&M has gone in search of interesting stories. The title of the first talk (12 midday) is Dit is geen lef, dit is leven ["This isn't courage, it's life"]. Yvonne Kuijpers of OceanPeople will be telling you all about the life of an ocean sailor: skipper, sailing router, mother and businesswoman. She will be illustrating her talk with superb images. At 2.00 p.m. you will have the opportunity to hear Gerard Dijkstra (Dijkstra & Partners). The subject of his talk is "Yacht building innovations", and he will be finishing off with some outstanding images of his voyage on the "Bestevaer II" to Greenland.

Jildou, of the Communication & PR department: "This year we are providing catering so that visitors can have lunch at the shipyard. We've also invited a number of business people from Makkum to display their fine products: Makkum earthenware and ship's crockery, 'clothing from the coast' and nautical art. Some of our suppliers will also be displaying their articles and products. All in all, we have a broad range on offer so that there is something for everyone. Our people will be standing by to help and advise visitors all day long. Visitors are welcome from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The complete programme is given at http://www.kmy.nl/.
